Scholarship Scandal has surfaced in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University

 A major scholarship scandal has surfaced in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), wherein the scholarship amount had reportedly gone to some fake accounts by the active involvement of some higher officials of varsity, thus depriving the deserving students of their legitimate due. Sources informed  that following repeated complaints of scholarship embezzlement, a team was constituted by Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education department to ascertain the veracity of complaints. The enquiry team comprising Director Colleges in Higher Education Department Tariq Ahmad Kawoosa and an official of Accounts cadre Kumarji Raina were ordered by department to conduct an enquiry. "Director Colleges office is presently in civil secretariat, but on Wednesday, May 20, the enquiry team reached Jammu and on May 21, they visited BGSBU Rajouri campus and thoroughly checked the files .
They further said that the team was on three days visit to Jammu and the enquiry team was ordered to submit report immediately. Sources further said that at present students in BGSBU have been getting benefits of three scholarship schemes including Bad pocket scholarship scheme, SC/ST scholarship scheme and Merit based scholarship scheme. "Maximum reports of embezzlement of scholarship money was reported in SC/ST scholarship", sources said. Director Colleges Tariq Ahmad Kawoosa refused to divulge any detail and on being asked about the scholarship scandal, he asked for details of the scholarship scheme. He also said that he would enquire about the scholarship scheme from BGSBU officials. Vice Chancellor of BGSBU, IA Hamal said that he was out of station and was unaware of the matter. Sources informed that some higher officials of the University were also involved in the entire scandal and they would be exposed in near future. Sources further alleged that the dismissal of the Cashier of Jammu and Kashmir Bank's Darhal branch also had links with the scholarship pilferage scandal. "Cashier of J&K Bank Darhal Branch Ajaz Malik was dismissed nearly a fortnight back on the instructions of higher officials and he was allegedly involved in the scandal", they further said. On being asked, Branch Manager of J&K Bank Darhal Branch said that it was the administrative matter and the central office could only reply over any enquiry. On being asked, whether cashier was dismissed or not, he said that he could not give any reply, adding that dismissing any official was also in hands of higher officials. Sources in the Higher Education department informed that there were a large number of reports regarding embezzlement of scholarship funds in the BGSBU, after which the enquiry has been ordered. Commissioner Secretary of Higher Education department, Sarita Chouhan said that there were some complaints and some issues in BGSBU for which, a team has been constituted and sent for scrutiny of the records. On being asked, about the name of scholarship in which embezzlement complaints were received, she said that there were many issues.
